Happy Birthday to ME!!

Sunday

Dinner was here this week, so we slept in  and then picked up around here. Rog went and got groceries for me while the kiddos and I packed up all the Christmas stuff. Once Rog got home, he and the kiddos loaded it all up and took it to the shed.  As much as I love the holiday times, I am glad that is done.

After dinner, we started out playing Yahtze turbo, but it moved to fast for Dad and Rog, so we switched to Canasta...until 11:00pm....

Off to bed...

Lazy Saturday

Rog is at the station today, so he left early.  The kiddos stayed with my mom last night, so they were gone.  The dogs were being lazy, so I joined them - and slept until about 9:30 this morning...I needed that!!

Today was a truly lazy day - I have spent most of it at here at the computer - I finally figured out how to Sync my phone to my pc, but for some reason, it won't sync my outlook calendar with my phone calendar.  I have been using google calendar (because I could share with mom and sis and mil) but we have all agreed that we are not using it this year - just gonna have to remind each other what is going on...I am trying to get away from a paper calendar and use my phone only, but I don't know how that is going to work.

I have also been doing some data entry for the fd.  I have a stack of stuff I need to get entered, but it is slow going - it is very low on my priority list -like even below random blogging - but I need to get it moved up and really work on it - so it will be done!

The kiddos came home and rode their new scooters for a while - it is nice out, a little cool, but nice...

We had a wedding to attend this evening - it was a few towns over - about an hour away - we rode with mom and dad. It was a nice ceremony - my Sis and I were supposed to help serve, and even though there was TONS of food - all we really had to do was serve up a few glasses of punch.  P was a happy bride  -she was a bit nervous during the ceremony - he stepdad was the minister, and he is a jokester, so I can see why, but once it was all over, she relaxed and I think she had a great evening.

Friday ~

I am checking in here a bit early this evening...Rog will be home soon and I want to spend what time I can with him, as he gets up early and goes to work - I haven't seen him since Christmas Day!

My friends Granny's funeral was this morning, so we got up and around and I dropped the kiddos at moms. I met my Sis and rode with her. It was a very nice service -a little different than what I am used to as far as traditional goes, but her wishes were carried out and that is what counts.  The chaplain offered anyone in the audience to stand up and tell any fond memories or funny stories about her - and there were TONS!  It was great - everyone laughed, then they played I Did It My Way - which was so her - and everyone cried.  She was the true backbone of that family-  she will be missed greatly.

My sis and I stopped for a bite to eat and then headed to mom's to get the kiddos. We hung out with mom and dad for a while. I have been kinda picking up around here - I need to go work on the den once again. 

Well, off to clean until Rog gets home...catch yo all tomorrow...

Not what I had planned...

Well, I found out that one of my best friends Gramma passed away on Christmas Day  -late that night.  The family viewing was this morning, so I had her 2 girls over to play with my kiddos so she could be with her momma and help with that.  She stopped and picked up a pizza for lunch on her way back thru and hung out with me for a good part of the aftenoon - she needed that.

I started a fire in the fireplace and we just sat around in the den floor, eating out pizza, and chatting -while the kiddos all played. 

Needless to say, I didn't make any progress on the den like I wanted to.  Oh well, I guess it will get done whenever it gets done.

Visitation was this evening, so once she left, my mil picked up the kiddos and I got ready for that.  My mom and Sis and I went to the funeral home and grabbed a bite to eat.  It is early, but I am tired and don't feel well and Rog is gone, so I am off to bed.

Almost there...

Whew...

Rog is at the station today, so the kiddos and I are going thru things.  We are opening, adding batteries, charging, washing and taking things to the appropriate room.  We got thru most everything.  There are still a few things in the den.  My goal is to be ready to take the tree down, take boxes out to the shed and put things back in order in the family room on Sunday - when Rog will finally be home again to help.

We got most all of the new clothes (along with what laundry was already in the pile washed) now we just need to get things put away.

I am tired, and cold, so I am going to bed!

Our Christmas

SUNDAY: Rog worked at the station, the kiddos and I hung out at the house and cleaned! We ate dinner at mom and dad's and stayed over there WAY to late playing cards.

MONDAY: Rog came home from work - we were all still in bed asleep - he had been up all night on a house fire, so he was tired and he crawled back into bed.  We all slept until about 10:30.  We got up and rushed around to get ready to go to my mom;s for lunch at noon.  We had sandwiches for lunch and then the kiddo's got to open presents (and the adult's too!).  Mom and Dad got me a game called Eat It! and so me and Sis and Mom played that while Rog and Dad got the food and stuff ready for Grandpa's house.

We headed out there for our big Christmas Dinner (which is why we had sammiches at mom's). Everyone was at Grandpa's house except one of my cousin's hubby's.  Even without him, there was 26 of us.  We had a great dinner and time of visiting, and then the kiddos  (ok and the adults too) got to open more presents. 

We left there and drove around for a while looking at Christmas lights, and ended up at my Meme's and Pepaw's house.  Meme is home - out of the hospital and out of the nursing home - home - doing quite well.  She is feeling good, and getting around pretty good.  She was happy to have all of us there on Christmas Eve like we have done for as long as can remember.  We open a few gifts there, then the kiddos go play while the adultsplay dirty santa.  We started this a few years ago - when we all got to a point where no one knew what to get anyone else.  We each buy $50 gift cards - where ever we want them from - it can be one $50 or ten $5 cards - we wrap them and play dirty santa with them. (For those of you who are unfamilair with Dirty Santa - this is how we play -everyone draws a number - you can start with number 1 or the last number - whoever goes first gets their pick of the stack.  They open it, show what they have, then number 2 goes. Number 2 can pick one from the stack OR take number 1's gift.  If they take number ones, hen number one gets to pick again - once more have been opened, if your gift is taken, then you can chose from whatever is open or pick one from the table.  In the past, we have played where the gift could only be stolen twice - thrid person to possess the gift was it's owner. This year we played 'No Rules' meaning there was no 'owner' until the game ended when the last gift was picked up).  We play this with my parents, aunt and uncle, sister and 2 cousins and their spouses, and Rog and I of course...we have sooo much fun.  DS can be played with anything, but we chose the set amount GC so everyone gets the equivalant of what they came with.  This year's hot gc's were $50 at Kohls and $50 at Academy Sports as well as 2 different $50 Best Buy cards.  We playd for over an hour....laughing and all the entire time. I ended up with $50 at WalMart - Rog said no groceries with it - I have to buy something for me and he ended up with one of the Best Buy cards.  We always have such a good time.  One of the 'traditions' of the game has become -my aunt gets $10-$15 cards and makes a package of $50 - well, she usually goofs and one lucky winner goes home with $55-$60 instead of just the $50...but her cards are always places silly, so you really have to think if you want the one with more money or somewhere a little more practical. 

It was finally time to go home - and unload...and go to bed!  Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus that comes to our house...thankfully the kiddos crashed pretty quickly so we got to take care of that before we went to bed.

TUESDAY:  Santa visited here - and he left the kddos BB Guns, along with other things, but the BBGuns were their biggie.  We were still in bed when Ry got up.  I heard him go down the hall to the den, thenI heard him come running back down the hall, around our room to Rog's side of the bed and woke his dad up - he was so excited.  He asked if he could go wake Sis up, about that time here she comes saying she was up what was going on.  They had a great time tearing thru things...once we got gifts opened (I got 2 pair of long jammies and some houseshoes!) Rog and I spent some time opening their toys (my poor thumb!). His mom made us homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast, so we did stop for a yummy breakfast.  My parents came by to see the kiddos in all of their excitment.

After we got thru with this mornings doings, we loaded up and went to the in-laws.  We hang out there for a good part of the day, open gifts (TONS OF GIFTS) have the traditional pile-up in the paper (I will post a picture on Sat with my photohunters post), then have a yummy dinner!  We usually spend the entire day Christmas Day with Rog's family - just hanging out and having a good time.

I. like most blogs and other places I have read, LOVE Christmas, but I am SO glad it is over this year...I just wasn't into it for some reason.

Sorry this post is lacking in the pics - things really moved too fast for pics (and my camera battery was dead for most of it).

Blogger Friend School Assignment #12

Assignment: Write out some goals that you would like to accomplish. These goals should include your personal goals, but also goals as a family.

While setting goals, try to write out small attainable rewards for each goal accomplished!

This is what has been in the back of my mind this past week or so - I am going to post a place on the side of my blog for my 2008 goals!  Here are a few:

*My quiet time - and Bible reading - I want to have quiet time each day as well as read thru the bible.

* My weight - it has been going down, I am trying to keep it going that way...

*My house - I want to keep on top of things around here!

*Our finances - we almost live paycheck to paycheck around here - I want to get on top of this!

*I a joining in a reading club - I hope to keep up with it!

Another day full of baking....

After a good nights sleep (I was all alone, so I took some Tylenol PM) I woke up ready to go this morning.  I started out with Brown Sugar Holly Leaves (which I make into Christmas Trees) the dough needs to chill fo a couple of hours - so while that ws chilling, I make PB Balls.  I started on my Shortbread Bites and my sister showed up to bake.  She brought some break and bake brownie and chocolate chip cookies, and stuff to make PB Cups.  While we were circulating those thru the oven - along with the two doughs I had, we made some Muddy Buddies. Once we got thru all of those, I made some Chocolate Crinkles. I was pretty wore down by the time we finished...we had one load in the dishwasher and another full load in the sink waitng...

Dinner was at my sister's house last night, the kiddos played nicely together, so we played Canasta up until almost 10 o'clck - and I actually won - I am ususally in last place (Istink at card games!)

My baking day chaos

Well, my intentions were to get up, help Rog and SIs get off to deer camp and start baking.  My sister was supposed to come over and join me in baking.  Sounds like a good plan huh?  Wellll....it didn't exactly go that way.

First, it was pouring down nasty rainy weather Friday and Friday night, so I didn't get out tot he store to get the rest of my need. Then, Rog's dad decided he was going with them and so Rog had to wait on him to get ready to go -which was ok, because Rog needed to run to the bank.  Well, since he was getting out, and the bank is right there by the WalMart store, and he was going to have some money - I decided I could go with him, we could get the rest of my stuff, and groceries for this next week.  That worked out ok...as we were leaving the store, my dad called - wanting to know where we were. He was at my house - he had decided that today would be a great day to fix my leaking kitchen faucet.  The one that has been dripping for the past 3 years that we have lived in this house...the one that is in my kitchen, where I was going to spend the day baking...the one that I am so used to dripping that I wasn't sure what he was going to do to it...today...on my baking day....

So, it ended up being a fairly quick fix for my dad and he was out of the way long before Rog and Sis were!  After they left, my sister called - she was going to go do somthing for a friend that she was supposed to do last weekend and she may be by later (she never showed...)

After my house cleared and I was all alone - I started with White Chocolate Dipped Ritz/PB Sandwhich Crackers.  I also made some M&M cookies, and some White Chocolate Peppermint Chippers. 

Ry was at MIL with BIL and my 3 nephews -he went to a Christmas Party with them.  MIL came and got me - we went to Arby's and sat down and had a nice meal - just the 2 of us - for the first time in probably 8 years.  She brought me home, it is cold, and I am taking something to help me sleep and going to bed.....

This is GREAT!!!

Salt Dough Ornaments

My friend Angela shared the recipe with us - I posted ithere.  We started this project on Wednesday morning, were inturrupted by a fire, and finished it up Thursday morning.  We only lost 2 in the process of removing them from the cookie sheet and it was a snowman and a Jesus -both had lots of limbs.

Ok, the lovely ladies at Five In A Row have a daily decluttering challenge - I have been participating in it on and off...well, I decided to get back into it because my office was a M-E-S-S- mess!!!  The past 2 days, I haven't really been 'decluttering' so to speak, but cleaning in my office school room.  Sadly, it is the catch all and the last room cleaned - with the way I have been feeling the past few weeks, it was very low on the priority list as well...

A craft project for tomorrow...

Classic Salt Dough Ornament Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water

Directions:
1. Mix salt and flour. 
2. Add in half the water, then gradually add the remaining water. 
3. Knead until the dough is smooth, this can take up to 10 minutes.  
4. For flat dough ornaments roll out the dough on baking paper
Or be creative and make odd shapes and wreaths (takes longer to bake)
 
Create:
Use cookie cutters, cut-out templates, or just use your hands.
Dust dough with flour and begin to add details to the ornaments with a toothpick, popsicle stick, and knife.   

Don't Forget:
Use a straw to make a hole so you can hang the ornament.

Baking: Time varies based on thickness of ornament
Temperature: 325 degrees
Time: 1 1/2 hours - or until dry

Decorate: Let cool before you begin
Paint with acrylic paints
Glue on beads, buttons, or any fun accessory

Preservation: Making them last a long time
Coat with acrylic varnish when everything is dry

- Add food coloring to make dough a unique color - white, blue, red, etc...
