A visit to the landfill

A few years ago, the homeschool group went on a field trip to the Two Pines Landfill (city dump).  Sounded like a crazy field trip, but it ended up being really cool.  We were taken out to the actual hole where the trash was dumped and were able to watch the action of moving the trash around, bringing in more trash, making it all level and learning that they cover it at the end of each day to keep the critters away.

This time, we were given a shorter tour inside and then, instead of going out to the active landfill, they took us up on top of the closed hill.  It was really cool up there!  We were able to see the action down in the hole from up where we were... plus a lot of other things close by!!

The well pump that is used to move the methane gas- which is used to generate electricity for 4500 homes in the NLR area.
