Crew Blog Hop ~ Following Their Lead

I am not a boxed-curriculum person.  I think it stems from my daycare days, where we used Unit Studies to learn. I started off with Unit Studies when the kiddos started schooling, and over the years, have morphed into more of an eclectic learning style.  I still don't care for the boxed curriculum, and I really don't like the "this is how you teach" approach that some boxed-styles have.  We like to take things and do them our way.

I really, REALLY like the idea of child-led, or delight-directed, it's just, as they get older, I feel like we need some sort of solid ground to stand on. That being said, I really do discuss their curriculum with them.  They give their input on all we do.  There are some times that they reluctantly choose the lesser of two evils, because, no matter what, you still have to do math!!

Delight-directed learning really is, in my opinion, the best way to go.  If the kiddos are interested in learning about something - then they will learn!!  Follow their lead and let them learn!!  Rabbit trails are ok!  I am a calendar/planner oriented person and sometime following those rabbit trails are hard -- but I find they learn when we go that route!!
