2006 Cookie Swap

My Favorite Christmas Cookies


CANDY CANE COOKIES


(from my Aunt Di)


Cream together:


1/2 cup soft shortening


1/2 cup butter


1-1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring (if using almond oil - not as much)


1 teaspoon vanilla extract


1 cup powdered sugar


1 egg


Sift together:


2-1/2 cups all purpose flour


1 teaspoon salt


Mix flour mixture into creamed shortening mixture.  Divide dough in half. Add red food coloring to half of the dough and blend to desired color. Take an even amount of each and roll together to form a candy cane. Bake at 375* for 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle with a combination of sugar and crushed candy canes (or peppermints).
