Breaking the Cycle of Incarceration in Your Community: A Holistic Approach to Restoring Hearts, Minds and Lives Movement Day 2013 Track Focuses on Helping People Affected By Crime

Crime is nothing new. In fact, it’s as old as life itself, especially in urban areas. Confronted with the soaring cost of crime and the high toll incarceration takes on individuals, families, victims and the economy – cities need help. Working toward building safer communities we envision a finely-tuned collaboration of churches, organizations and public policy advocates, working collectively and proactively through educational programs to change hearts and the culture, to restore the community. We expect to deepen existing relationships and form new, creative partnerships – so together – we can help meet the accumulating needs faced by the individual prisoner, ex-prisoners, their families, victims, and the communities in which they live. We want to see broken lives restored resulting in healthy families and safer communities (see Isaiah 32:18).  By strategically joining forces with others, we expect to be a catalyst for change. With sensible collaboration between a diversity of organizations working within their own expertise, we can develop new ways to address the ongoing problems of individuals and their communities impacted by incarceration. By offering caring ministry, biblical counseling, quality mentoring, and advocating for public policy changes based on a biblical worldview, we hope to shift the focus from urban problems to effective solutions.  This Track is for: Leaders, public policy makers, educators, and church/community members interested in learning how their organizations can creatively work collaboratively to influence the culture and bring hope and healing to people affected by crime.

TRACK OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Prison Fellowship Ministries and Hope for the Heart will present a panel of speakers to share how each ministry is offering restoration to communities and healing for the broken-hearted – all at no cost to taxpayers.  Because the needs of the community, the incarcerated, and their families are too overwhelming for any one group, we understand it takes an orchestrated network of leaders, agencies, churches, and organizations to propose creative solutions. He is also a frequent commentator on the Colson Center's nationally syndicated Breakpoint radio program.  Teri O’Connor, Executive Director of Ministry Advancement, Hope For The Heart, Dallas, TX   Teri works with clients to help them build meaningful and long lasting relationships with their donors. Sought after as a national speaker on the topics of donor cultivation, communication, and recognition, she has had the privilege of working with faith-based and not-for-profit organizations for more than 25 years. She actively serves on the SRD Group Board of Directors, the ACSI Foundation Board, the North Texas Christian Leadership Alliance Board, and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Teri has worked to further the missions and ministries of her clients through a donor-centric approach designed to increase awareness, build strategic partnerships, and help donors honor God through stewardship.
