Teen CERT ~ finally taking steps to get it started

I recently received an email from a friend that had some information on it about Teen CERT.  Having teens, being involved in the community (mainly fire department) I decided to check into it.  Well, have any of you ever tried to email or contact FEMA?  Not an easy feat!!!

So, after many ignored emails, I finally got through to someone!  We chatted by email for a while, then we were finally able to meet and get some dates on the calendar to get this program going.

CERT stands for Community Emergency Response Team.  (the teen part is on the sidebar) The teen part, just a condensed version for the kiddos to understand.  CERT teaches how to prepare for an emergency, what to do for yourself and family in an emergency (or natural disaster).  From there it teaches you to spread out to the neighborhood, how to help and a few basic first aid.

The reason I am working so hard with this is because we have a few teens that are wanting to be involved in our local volunteer fire department, and this will work at their level - just to keep their interest (or weed them out?).

We start the class on July 18th, wrapping it up the first week in August.  Once it is complete, I will share.. I plan to take photos as well!!
