Every once in a while when we go on vacation, we get this bright idea to pack lunch stuff, with the plans on stopping at a rest area on the side of the road, fix a sandwich and eat a quick & cheap lunch. This is twice we have planned and failed with that idea! We did eventually find a really nice lake area, way off the path, that we made a sandwich at and stretched for a few.
Then we were back on the road ~ finally made it to Alabama ~
Everyone knows the best thing about Gulf Coast Alabama is the tunnel!!
HONK!!!!
USS Alabama - we took the kiddos there a few years ago - we opted not to stop there this trip...
Mobile Bay
And then we make it to Florida!!
Sun was starting to set as we headed over the bridge to Gulf Breezes.....
Toll booth to Pensacola Beach
A view of the sun setting over the bay from the balcony of the hotel room...
We asked the guy at the front desk what did he recommend here on the island and without hesitation, he suggested PegLeg Pete's.
After dinner, it was dark enough to head out to search for ghost crabs on the beach... we saw a huge jelly-fish also. After that we decided to go for a drive on the island to see some of the sights... not much out here on the island ~ we were actually hoping we could drive all the way to the end of the island and see the Pensacola Lighthouse, but due to Isaac, the roads were closed towards the end... we were able to see the flashing light - waaayyyyy off in the distance...
And a HUGE crab in the middle of the road when we headed back to the hotel!
