TOS Review - Pearsons
I love being able to review any math program. I feel like even if there is nothing new to learn, repetition never hurts... We were able to review My Math Lab by Pearson Homeschool. Riley got to do Algebra 1. That was maybe too much of a stretch for him... we are not quite there yet so we both struggled with this program. I want to say it was not the program, because I really think if we go back and try this again in a year, after pre-Algebra, then we wouldn't struggle as bad with it. It was just that he didn't understand the concepts and some of the problems required steps that he hasn't learned yet. I don't recall how long our access to this program is, but I do think after we have had a bit of pre-Algebra and he learns some formulas and a little about negative numbers, then we will try to revisit this and see if it works better when we are at that level. He wasn't happy about working on this one right now because it was so frustrating for him.
The way MyMathLab is set up was a bit confusing at first, in fact I had to have a little bit of help to figure out how to maneuver through the main page, and I still struggled with it. The main page, or dashboard, of the program was very busy and I felt like there were things on there that I should be using but wasn't sure what to do with them. Maybe it was too busy and I couldn't wrap my brain around it?

I'm not sure how I feel about computer school stuff. I think we spend too much time with hobbies already on the computer that I'd hate to add more time.
ReplyDeleteI think that this program could be considered an "honor" level course and that is likely why it was frustrating for your son. I agree, Pre-algebra is a necessary prerequisite for this prorgram.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a good program, it was just frustrating because we are not quite to that level. My sister is taking some college courses and she uses MyMathLab and said the program is fine... it was just the level of math we have not reached yet.
ReplyDeleteMJ ~ I am kinda torn on computer school stuff also... I like the thought of it, but we have laptops, so they are not always out and open, so it doesn't always happen...
