Homeschool Open House

Tiany over at Less of Me~More of Him is hosting a Homeschool Open House.

I am Christa ~ mom to Sis and Ry - 7 year old twins.  We live in Arkansas - which is a pretty easy state to homeschool in. We were all at daycare (I worked there) until they were about 3 1/2, then we came home.  We started preK that following August and have been schooling here at home ever since.  We are starting 2nd grade on Monday - August 6th!

We are pretty relaxed around here as far as a day goes. We get up around 7:30 or so and do a few chores, have breakfast and then get started on our school day. In the past, most days we have been done or pretty close to it by lunch time - I am curious to see how this year goes, and how long we will spend - I am thinking longer because we are including Five In A Row this year - going to do it after all of our other work, so I am thinking that it will be an after lunch thing.

In addition to FIAR, our choices for this year are linked over to the left on my sidebar.  While it looks like we have a lot going on, we really don't.  We will not use everything listed everyday - at least I don't think we will be!!

Schedule~ I have everything penciled in - and I am aware that things happen, oppurtunities arise and we will just go with the flow when something out of character happens. Our daily schedule, I have planned what I want to accomplish each day - and we just go with it...if it takes us just  a few mintues in the morning, or if it takes us all day long, that is what we do. I am going to try to put  a bit more of a limit on somethings this year - like math - we only do like 2 pages per day, so it really shouldn't take them that long - once I figure out a time limit, then once that time is up, you will have to give up your free time to finish it up. We do not have a time to start and school is done type schedule.

A far as the yearly schedule - we go year round.  I have this year set up for 4 weeks on and 1 week off, that works out with holidays and vacations and such.  We will start August 6, and take a (out of our schedule week) vacation in October, but everything else fits - a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, a week on their birthday, and various other weeks off thru the year.

We are blessed enough to have a school room/office with a nice big table. We use it alot, and are in the school room alot, but there have been times we have ended up at the dining room table, or on the couch or in bed reading!

Thanks for sharing your homeschool with us. It's funny but when I was writing up everything my kids do for the open house, I thought the same thing it sure sounds like a lot. Funny how seeing it written makes it seem like more than it is.

    Have a great year!
