Have you no (edible) spine?
Tonight, Sam and Em made edible spines. We used hard and soft lifesavers on a pipe cleaner and it gave the impression of the spine and the cartlidge in your back. They were able to move them and bend them like they were bending over. Then, they ate them!
It was a simple, easy, fun thing for them to see the science.

ABC Photo Hunt
A group of the homeschool families meet downtown at the RiverMarket for an ABC photo scavenger hunt. We started off on the North side and we rode the River Trolley across the river and around town.
We spread out and we managed to each find all of the letters. Kiddos did great and I had a blast! Here are a few of my faves.. see if you can figure out what they are..

After our day downtown, we went to Creegan's Irish Pub for lunch... Super yummy! What a great day for the four of us... the weather was awesome, and the company was great!!

HERE is where she found the idea!
While roaming downtown, we did something else that the kiddos always wanted to do...
Peabody Duck March!!

Jones ~ our new science mascot
The skeleton is the next stop on our study through the human body! We had a great model skeleton to put together that I had held onto for just this occasion!
We started putting him together, and this was as far as we could get without Rog's help. It was very hard to put together, but he sure is cute!! I'm sure he will be even cuter when he's complete!

And now we are a Tenderfoot
Tonight was the first Court of Honor since he moved up to Boy Scouts.
He received his First Aid, Swimming and one other one that I can't seem to call up Merit Badges.
He earned his Pioneer Trails patch from summer camp.
And, he received Tenderfoot Rank...
He was also chosen by the two Eagles in our troop as *Most Achieved* and was awarded the troop pin. He gets to write his name on it and bring it back to the next CoH and it is passed on to the next high achiever! What a fun troop thing to do! He was most excited about this.

Destination Disney ~ the letter *M*
Dangerous Electricity by Riley
We went on a field trip to First Electric and I learned that electricity is very dangerous. The reason you stay away from power lines is because they are very high voltage. Due to the high voltage, power lines could electrocute you and send electricity to the ground. Electricity travels so fast that if you were to wrap a power line around the earth twice and put a light bulb on one end and a switch on the other side and put them next to each other then flip the switch your light bulb is already on. This is a reminder if you touch a power line it could result in severe injury or even death.
Power Lines by Samantha
We went on a field trip to First Electric and i learned to never play around power lines. playing around power lines are no fun they could electrocute you very badand you will need to be sent to a hospital. We were taght to stay at least ten feet away from power lines if you are in a tree or they are on the ground. if you touch a power line you will get shocked extremly fast because it eravels faster then the speed of light. If you touch any tipe of power line it could cause sever injurys or death to you or a loved one.
Electric Company!
Another exciting field trip we attend this week was the Electric Company. It was set up as two (actually 3) different sessions. They started out in a classroom type setting, watching a video about electricity safety. Once they finished the videos, there was a little discussion about things. They were cute videos! The kiddos were put in these situations and had to tell the folks that worked there what was wrong or what to do. The Electric Company had plenty of staff and were very helpful!
Sessions two and three separated the younger kiddos from the older ones. The younger kiddos got to see a magic show and the older kiddos got to see some electricity in action!! There is a mobile classroom trailer that the linemen showed the kiddos how it all worked. It was really neat! They showed them how the fuse is thrown and how it you touched anything up there on the poles- it would FRY you!

Science in Action
So, we had a pretty interesting science lesson today.
The kiddos found a snake in the backyard and while trying to figure out if it was poison or not, the way he was holding him - I could tell it wasn't going to be good.

He was a fairly small snake, and had a nice size lump in him.
I told Roger when he moved the rake he was using to hold it down, that who knows what is going to happen...and yep, it did happen... the frog didn't agree with the snake's belly after the human torment...
Wanna know what's worse? The frog was still breathing!
And yes, the entire time I was saying that's gross and snapping pictures like crazy! Kiddos, of course, loved every minute of it!!
